After visiting eight  national parks (Arches, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Zion, Death Valley, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Petrified Forest) we found ourselves in Arizona, still about 750 miles away from Estes Park. So instead of going to the Grand Canyon we decided to go to the Canyon de Chelly National Monument the next day. On the way there I was kind of regretting this decision, but that disappeared as soon we arrived. The views from the rim drives were stunning and the White House Ruins Trail brought us to the canyon floor to a 800 year old Anasazi cliff dwelling. It was the perfect ending to our road trip. I feel like we only scratched the surface in each place we went to. But that’s of course how it always is when you’re traveling. Together with the Shenandoah,  Mammoth Cave, Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier last summer and the Rocky Mountain NP over here  I’ve been to 14 US national parks now, 45 to go. And then there are 107 more national monuments :-).
